about

The red forest is the area where [most] of the prevaling winds blew from Chernobyl. I visited it and toured the abandoned city of Prepayt on my last trip to Ukraine. If you listen closely to the first 20 seconds of the song you can hear the ticking from the Geiger counter I rented. That's an actual recording of radiation coming off of reactor #4. The "Dugga" mentioned is a reference to Duga 3 - an early warning system located 5km from the reactors inside the exclusion zone. NATO dubbed it the "steel yard" but ham radio operators called it the "woodpecker" for the ticks it gave off in rapid succession on the AM frequency.
